Davos Town

Davos usually comes hand in hand with Klosters (which is located just down the road). Davos town has two main areas: Platz to the south and and Dorf to the north. Rather than chic chalets and wooden buildings, which is what you would expect to find in a ski resort, the town is far more industrialized with modern offices and apartments which are all set against the beautiful mountain scenery. And the sheer natural grace of Lake Davos in between the Landwasser valley adds to the picturesque looks. Although the Federal Institute for Snow and Avalanche research is located in Davos, it’s always worth taking care whilst off piste.

Apres Ski

Davos has a great selection of apres ski bars, perfect for the stylish business person or family beer. With a wide range of options, from lively pubs to classy lounges, there will be something for everyone. Some of our favourites include The Bolgen Plaza (located at the bottom of the slopes, this place is great for a drink after the last run of the day). Later into the evening, Central Piano bar offers a classy feel among good music before Postli Bar / Postli Club, which will be pumping until the early hours.

Davos has over 100 places to eat, from cute cafes to fine dining restaurants. The cuisines range from locally sourced Swiss food to French, Italian, Indian and Thai. The chefs in Davos are prepared for the ‘high fliers’ and their quality of food answers to this. Landgasthof Lengmatta Lengmatta is one of the best for true local Swiss food whilst Goldenen Drachen is by far the best Chinese restaurant Davos has to offer. Some of our favourite fine food, Michelin star restaurants, include Leonto Restaurant and Gourmetrestaurant Mann und Co.

Plenty of shops throughout Davos make this town a great place for shopping. Boutiques, popular brands, sports, watches, jewelry and local crafts are distributed around the town. And with Klosters just down the road offering further shops and true local Swiss boutiques, shopping addicts might need to set themselves a budget and time to ski.

Davos town has activities for all ages and all levels of relaxation or excitement. This includes: Paragliding, a visit to the lake, Schatzalp (the cog railway which will take you up the side of the mountain), Zügenschlucht (a 3km walk around the gorge), Vaillant Arena (ice hockey/ ice skating), the Kirchner Museum and plenty of spas (like Eau-là-là wellness and pleasure pool centre). Davos also has a casino for those looking for to test their luck (or skill) as well as an escape room and bowling alley. Check out the Davos tourism office here.

How To Get There

Davos has a municipal bus system which will swiftly get you around town once in the resort. Davos is around 3 – 4 km long so all areas of the town can be reached by bus, train or walking. There is also the option to drive around Davos and there are regular car pay-parks around the main ski lift stations. The local buses and trains are all mostly free (however there is the odd exception).

By Car

The main driving route to Davos is from Zurich. Take the A3>A13 motorway and follow the green signs towards Chur. Once you have reached Landquart continue on Canton Road 28 to Davos/Klosters.

By Plane

The closest airport to Davos is Zurich, which is under a 2 hour taxi ride or 2 hour 20 minutes train. The next closest is Friedrichshafen (in Germany), which is around a 2 hour taxi journey or 3 hour train ride and Allgau Memmingen (also in Germany) which is just over a 2 hour taxi ride or 4 hours by train. Another popular option is Innsbruck (in Austria) which is a 3 hour taxi or 4 hour train ride.

By Train

The trains from the Main Zurich airport depart every hour and the station is located under the airport. One change will be required: get on the IC3 and head towards Chur and get off at Landquart. Then get on the train towards St Mortiz and exit at Davos Dorf or Davos Platz (double check or ask us which Davos station your luxury chalet is closest to).

Ski Conditions

Davos has 5 large ski areas set on both sides of the valley. Once you reach the top, expect descents of 9,000 feet as well as endless amount of varied terrain. Advanced skiers and boarders will enjoy Davos ski area, closely followed by intermediates. There are technically no beginner runs meaning basic ski experience is needed in this resort! Klosters, which is located down the road, is connected as part of the 5 ski areas and offers beautiful alpine scenery set amongst the mountain backdrop. Snow conditions are usually very good, due to the high altitude. The is also a plenty of snow machines at the lower part of the mountain to ensure full coverage of the piste during the end of the season.

Piste Facts

Ski Piste Total: 260 km
Longest Slope: 12 km

The Experts

Davos has excellent conditions and terrain for the expert skiers, with over 80% geared towards those looking to get their heart pumping. There is around 300km of black runs set over the 5 ski areas and many of them cutting through the trees. Davos also has many legendary off piste ski routes with some of the best being from Parsenn down to Kublis, Serneus and Saas. Two exhilarating black runs lead down to Wolfgang at the end of the Davos lake, via the Meierhofer Tälli and the Gruobenalp. The moguls are found beneath the Schwarzeealp and a further great, challenging and wide black run is located on Rinerhorn from Nüllisch Grat.

The Intermediates

The intermediate skiers will love Davos and the 5 ski areas. The 12km longest run to Kublis is worth at least a couple of attempts! The first part of the 12km run is rather difficult so it may be worth starting at Weissfluhjoch. Passing through the trees and fields past Schwendi, it’s a beautiful scenic route! Grab a bite to eat in the café before getting the train back to Klosters and then the Gotschnabahn to get back to ski run to Davos. Between the ski areas, there is a multitude of fun and wide red and blue runs, great for carving. Our favorite intermediate areas include Parsenn and Madrisa.

The Beginners

As mentioned, the Davos begginers areas aren’t great but there are a few areas to try. Bolgen on the Jakobshorn, Bünda (close tor the base of Parsenn), the children’s are at the top of Madrisa and a small beginners zone at Selfranga.

The boarders

Davos loves it’s boarders and the boarders love Davos! With countless intermediate wide blue and red slopes, carving and jibbing will be a blast! Boarders need to get themselves to the Jakobshorn mountain, where the Jatz Junior snow park with its super pipe, kickers, rails and other terrain features are located (it’s also worth noting, the park is floodlit from 2130 from Tuesday to Saturday excluding Thursday). There’s also boardercross on Parsenn and a small park on Rinerhorn.

The Non-Skiers

Davos is a great place for skiers and non skiers alike! With loads of activities and entertainments the choice may be a little difficult, but includes: ice skating, curling, tobogganing, walking, paragliding, hang-gliding, indoor tennis, swimming and a climbing wall. Davos also offers a many shops and a plenty of exhibitions and events. Check out the various exciting events in Davos!
